Removing Smoke Odor
Place a bowl of vinegar out to absorb smoke odor.

Removing Candle Wax from Walls
Candle wax can be removed from walls or other surfaces with an iron and facial tissue. Set the tissue over the wax and gently iron. When the wax seeps through or the tissue begins to brown, apply a new tissue.

cleaning your dishwasher
Check the drain for bits of food; use paper towels to absorb debris. Start the empty washer, then stop the cycle when the bottom is full of water. Add 2 cups of vinegar (to remove hard-water buildup) and let sit for 30 minutes. Scrub walls with a sturdy brush and finish the cycle.

Keeping Mirrors Fog-Free
Before your husband turns on the water, he can rub a bit of shaving cream on the mirror, then wipe it clean. The mirror will not fog up! (I just retested this in my husband's enclosed shower, and it really works.) Hair shampoo will also do the job. For those who shave at the sink, the old standby still holds: Grab a hair dryer (turned on high) and aim it at the mirror; the surface will clear up in no time. Turning on the exhaust fan or opening a window or door will also help.

The best way to get those darn price stickers off of glass
Don't rub or scrub; simply cover the sticker with a light oil, like baby, mineral or vegetable, and let set overnight. Lift one corner and slowly pull off. This usually works well. Some people like to soak the item in hot water, and that often works also. A third option if the surface is glass or metal (not wood, etc.) is to spray with a lubricating spray, let set and remove.

The easiest way to clean metal mini blinds
The trick is to dust blinds often with the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner. Another low-tech way of quick cleaning? Put an old terry-lined sock, inside out, on your hand and wipe the blinds. If dust still remains, dampen a clean sock with water or window cleaner, then, with blinds closed, wipe each slat from side to side, starting at the top and working down. Repeat on the reverse side.

If the blinds are still not clear of grime, they'll need a major cleaning and you'll have to take them down. Put metal blinds in the bathtub (place a towel on the bottom to avoid scratching the tub) and clean them with a soft brush, using a solution of mild dishwashing liquid and water. Scrub carefully, because blinds can be scratched and the strings can break. Take care when cleaning metal blinds; they can cut your hands. Be sure to rinse blinds well and dry them right away.

Removing Crayon
Use a petroleum-based product (a common spray-can lubricant available at houseware and hardware stores) to remove the marks. Apply to the surface, then wipe with a dry cloth. If the marks don't disappear completely, wash the stained areas with a sponge dipped in a warm solution of liquid dishwashing soap and water. Rinse and let dry. You may have to repeat this process.
